    Connoisseurs Choice – Petersons Tins – 50g

    £17.80

The Nurnberg brothers Friedrich and Heinrich Kapp, whose elegant Dublin tobacconist first opened for business in 1865 on Grafton Street, Dublin could scarcely have dreamt that they would participate in the birth of a legend.

Friedrich & Heinrich, who christened their shop simply ‘Kapp Brothers’, soon made a name for themselves making and selling quality Meerschaum and Briar Root pipes. It was not long before Charles Peterson walked into Kapp Brothers Grafton Street premises armed with a revolutionary pipe and ambitious plans for the future.

There and then, Peterson suggested that the brothers go into partnership with him to turn his pipe dream into the world’s dream pipe. They agreed and the company was renamed, Kapp & Peterson. Kapp and Peterson went on to become Dublin’s most fashionable and respected manufacturer and purveyor of fine smoking products. Pipe and cigar smokers would stroll down to the elegant premises for professional advice on the subtle nuances that determine a good handmade cigar or pipe. The Peterson brand was embraced by politicians, business leaders, sportsmen, artists and writers.

The skills and craft which Charles Peterson applied to his original invention are continued by the dedicated team of craftsmen at Peterson today. Whether as a gift for a friend or for your own personal use, you will appreciate the excellence of the Peterson range of cigars, tobaccos, pipes and smoking accessories.

    Peterson’s Connoisseur’s Choice

Peterson’s Connoisseur’s Choice is an aromatic blend that has a Caribbean feel to it, with fruity pineapple, coconut, vanilla, some citrus and a helping of fine rum.

It utilises a blend of gold and red Virginias, Black Cavendish and the ribbon cut is mixed with broken flake. While smoking this tobacco it is clear there is flavouring added but it isn’t an unnatural flavour that argues with the leaves it’s put on or the palate. Although some tobaccos overindulge on the alcohol flavourings, Connoisseur’s Choice pipe tobacco has the balance just right.

This blend is recommended to all, from the beginner to the expert, from the aromatic enthusiast to the tobacco purist. Everyone can find something to enjoy in this mixture.

Once you’re into the tin, you’ll receive a modest aroma of spice, fruits and a hint of rum.

This carries forward into the smoke too. If you have time before you tuck into the enjoyable tobacco, you’ll notice broken flake within the folds of ribbon. The golden brown, reddish browns and blacks remind of a chocolate dessert, and certainly, this blend is a great dessert smoke.

Also, if you have company, they will hopefully enjoy the scent almost as much as you do.

De Luxe Mixture – Petersons Tins – 50g

    £17.80

The Nurnberg brothers Friedrich and Heinrich Kapp, whose elegant Dublin tobacconist first opened for business in 1865 on Grafton Street, Dublin could scarcely have dreamt that they would participate in the birth of a legend.

    Peterson’s De Luxe Mixture

Peterson’s De Luxe Mixture is an aromatic blend of Black Cavendish and Virginia with a mild topping of Vanilla, Walnut and Honey. The flavours of the tobaccos work in tandem with the added flavourings which brings out the best in both.

The sweetness of the Black Cavendish, honey and vanilla complement the slightly savoury Virginias and Walnut to give an overall medium-sweet smoke.

This is not necessarily a dessert smoke as it’s sweetness is milder and more subtle but it works well in a breakfast pipe with a good cup of coffee.

The Virginias are from Brazil and Africa, mixed with a loose cut Black Cavendish to give a light tobacco blend that’s easy to pack and light.

Out of the tin, the aroma is of sweet caramel nuttiness with a subtle honey piquancy. There’s an array of dark browns to blacks with flecks of golden brown to tempt the eye.

The room note of this tobacco is pleasant and may be enjoyed by others around.

    Peterson Early Morning Pipe Tobacco

Peterson Early Morning Pipe is Latakia, Oriental and Virginia, blended to suit the morning hours of the day when you’re sipping your first warm drink of the day.

Is it coffee or tea for you?

This pipe tobacco has been waking up the palates of pipe smokers around the world for well over half a century! The manufacture may have changed hands a few times over the years, the original brand owner, Dunhill may have dropped it but it’s still here and going strong, with new owner Peterson.

Peterson and blending partner, STG have not changed the recipe this time around, so you can experience all the same rousing flavours you used to.

The tobacco is ribbon cut, which leads to a straightforward packing of the pipe. Mostly brown and tan in colour though there is Latakia in here, it is a small proportion.

  • Elizabethan Mixture

    Elizabethan Mixture – Petersons Tins – 50g

    £17.80

2018 was a sad year for fans of Dunhill tobacco when they announced that they were discontinuing all of their tobaccos for good. Thankfully Peterson has come to the rescue in 2019 and has released all the Dunhill blends you love rebranded under the Peterson name. And to top it off, the recipes remain exactly the same, the only difference is the branding on the tin. So you can be assured that the tobacco you get is the one you know and love.

Relaunched by Peterson in 2019, the Peterson Elizabethan Mixture is a rich flavoured blend of pressed, air-cured and ribbon cut dark Virginia leaves with a touch of Louisiana Perique for added zest and richness. Unfortunately, the recipes will never quite be the same as the originals as the same leaf is not available and times change but we have already had our first reviews. We are told that this one is close and dare we quote “could even be better than the Murrays version” (Cue the abuse.) We’ll let you decide what you think.

    Peterson Flake Pipe Tobacco

Peterson Flake is a straight Virginia, medium in strength which burns cool and smooth that has had an avid following through the years.

A welcoming tin note of hay, a little citrus and grass, earthiness and sweetness, greets you as you open the lid.

The flakes are wonderfully deep and rich in colour, especially for a Virginia and they are a pleasure to work into your pipe. Lighting is easy, as there is the right amount of moisture and the tobacco burns long and cool without biting.

The smoke is naturally sweet and one of the best examples of a straight Virginia out there.

It’s no wonder people keep coming back to this tobacco.

Back in late 2017, Dunhill announced they would cease producing their famous and much loved pipe tobacco range, which left many devoted fans with a heavy heart.

Two years on, Peterson have boldly taken the torch and relit the fire without altering the recipes, to bring back some old friends.

    Peterson My Mixture 965

Ribbon cut and so easy to pack a pipe with, it’s a pleasure in itself, with the fragrance of a log burning fire alongside the sweetness, it’s like Autumn any time of the year!

If you like your Latakia blends, you’ll love this!

This may be a sweet English mixture, or maybe it should be classified as a Scottish mixture?

Either way, it’s not overly sweet. It has some fermented flavours as well, acidity in the background that you may detect, which compliments the woodiness, the spice and the citrus elements of the respective Latakia, Oriental and Virginia.

There’s creamy nuttiness in here too. All together very enjoyable.

  • PET 221DR 76.50

Peterson – Donegal Rocky Briar Pipe 221 Fishtail

    £76.50

The Peterson Donegal is Peterson’s entry-level pipe and is probably their most popular range of pipes. The price is more affordable as the bowl is carved rather than sandblast or smooth so the grain does not have to be aesthetically pleasing. The quality of the Briar is still very good as with all Peterson pipes.

The bowl is coloured with a rich Cherry coloured stain with an overlay or Dark brown. When the pipe is polished the black cherry stain is revealed on the raised areas for a stunning contrast.

This pipe is finished with a flush Nickel band stamped with the Peterson logo. The Peterson Donegal pipes are part of the classic range which means they do not have a specific filter and they are not a system pipe but usually have a small reservoir to collect impurities and moisture from the smoke.
